It became the first major town on the old Roman road of Watling Street for travellers heading north and became the Roman city of Verulamium. Saint Alban, the first British Christian martyr, was beheaded sometime before AD 324 and gave it its modern name

Welwyn Garden City: Welwyn Garden City is a town within the Welwyn Hatfield borough of Hertfordshire. It is located approximately 20 miles from Kings Cross and approximately 10 miles from the London Borough of Barnet and the London Borough of Enfield. Welwyn Garden City was the second garden city in England and one of the first new towns (designated 1948).
