Places to stay in Tasmania

Hobart: Hobart is Tasmania’s harbour capital, located in the south-east of the state at the foot of majestic Mount Wellington. Head down to Salamanca Place where you will find 19th-century waterfront warehouses dating back to the 1830s whaling days. Today, they house cafes, restaurants, galleries and art studios, the ideal place to wander or enjoy alfresco dining.

Launceston: Launceston is Tasmania’s second largest city and has redefined itself as a cultural hub with vibrant cafes, museums and open parkland. This small compact city is easy to explore. You can walk the elegant streetscapes and through century-old parks, which sit beside revitalised areas such as Launceston Seaport, with its waterfront eateries. A boardwalk links the Seaport to Inveresk, where you can visit one of Australia's best regional galleries, the Queen Victoria Museum at Inveresk.

Strahan: Strahan is a small town and former port on the west coast of Tasmania. It is now a significant locality for tourism in the region. Strahan Harbour and Risby Cove form part of the north-east end of Long Bay on the northern end of Macquarie Harbour.

Bicheno: Bicheno, just north of the Freycinet Peninsula on Tasmania’s east coast, is known for its laid-back lifestyle and outdoor activities. If a holiday relaxing by white, sandy beaches, dining on fresh seafood and playing leisurely games of golf sounds appealing, you’ll love Bicheno.

Devonport: Devonport is a coastal city of 25,000 people situated in the centre of Tasmania's North Coast. With a modern airport and the Bass Strait ferry terminal linking the city to Melbourne, Devonport is an arrival point for a large number of visitors to Tasmania each year. Devonport is the perfect place to make your base in Tasmania's North-West where you'll discover some of Tasmania's best national parks, food and wine experiences and history and heritage.
